About Us
Campus House for Girls was established in 1972. For over 35 years, Campus House has been providing programs and services in a safe, caring, and nurturing environment enabling girls to build confidence and character and to make positive choices.

Mission:
Develop and affirm a social and moral value system within each girl to enable her to function at a higher level of proficiency at home, at school, and in the community.

Campus House History:
Campus House opened its doors in October 1972 to help abused, neglected, and pre-delinquent adolescent girls. Originally the home was located on the campus of Kearney State College (now University of Nebraska at Kearney) in what was formerly a nurses' dormitory. Campus House has been the home to over 350 girls in residential care, with the goal of providing an environment for girls to deal with issues of abuse and neglect by helping them to learn and grow. Due to growth of the college, Campus House relocated in the fall of 1978. Although Campus House is no longer in its original location, the principles and values of the program remain the same. Campus House has been guided by caring citizens who became the first Board of Directors and continues to be led by a Board of Directors comprised of individuals who all share a passion for changing young girls lives.

Campus House was initially funded on a three-year diminishing demonstration grant. In order to continue the program, the directors/houseparents began fundraising during their time off. Their success in finding others to support the girls' endeavors has enabled the program to operate. Today, Campus House continues to offer services and programs thanks to the generosity of donors.

For the past several years, Campus House has offered the summer program Camp Confidence / Camp Moxie. This program has been a natural extension to the Campus House residential care program. The purpose of Camp Confidence / Camp Moxie is to offer girls, ages 10 through 17, the opportunity to learn confidence building skills as they enter middle school and high school.

The Moxie Angels program was conceived upon completion of the first summer program. The name Moxie Angels was chosen by the first group of campers. "Moxie" is defined in the American Heritage Dictionary as the ability to face difficulty with spirit and courage. "Angels" was inspired by the Charlie's Angels movie and its emphasis on "girl power". The Oxford English dictionary defines "girl power" as a self-reliant attitude among girls and young women, manifested in ambition, assertiveness and individualism.

Moxie Angels is a yearlong program dedicated to continuing the development of girls after attending summer camp and throughout the school year. The program enables the girls to continue friendships and have a support group of peers and mentors to talk about issues they are confronting at home or in school. Moxie Angels are divided into age groups. There are scheduled times for homework assistance, mentoring, learning new skills, and recreational activities. The girls also look forward to holiday parties, weekend retreats, and yearly trips.

After being approached by a parent seeking guidance, the program Parents Assisting Teens (PATS) was created. PATS is dedicated to helping parents tackle everyday parenting issues. The PATS program provides advice and support to parents in a non-judgmental environment. Trained professionals facilitate a formal group that meets regularly to discuss parenting challenges and strategies for success, in addition to providing one on one coaching.

From residential care to summer camps, the Moxie Angel program and Parents Assisting Teens -Campus House is dedicated to helping young girls and their families. We invite you to learn more about Campus House.
